Eenigenburg Museum Grand Opening
May 20, 2006

The excitement is building. The Grand Opening of the Eenigenburg Museum has now been set for Saturday, May 20, 2006. Plan on joining us for this wonderful event. There are also special activities planned for May 21-22.

The Eenigenburg Museum!! The historic house (Phase I) in the
background behind the beautiful new documentation center (Phase II).

If you’re a family member, a descendent of one of the other immigrant families, or even an interested close friend, you are invited and encouraged to attend. But do let us know if you are going to be there so we can include you in our plans. Just email jilleenig@aol.com

The museum is shaping up. The 6 foot by 9 foot replica of the Massachusetts of Boston was lifted into the building by crane before the roof was put on. It’s expansive and most impressive, and it will powerfully help tell the story of the tragic crossing to America. The exhibits on the history of the region and the heroic story of the pioneers that settled Roseland are being created and will also be on display. And the villagers will provide a warm reception for all that attend.

In addition, this is a great opportunity to see the beautiful countryside our ancestors gave up for a new life and greater freedoms. Or meander to the nearby dike and walk atop it to view the remaining foundation of a 700+ year old castle at nearby Neuendorn. Or just stroll the tree-lined lane to the beautiful little church in Eenigenburg. These are just a few of the many highlights you’ll want to see for yourself. Of course, May is also tulip time!

So save the date, and let us know when you’ve decided you’ll be there. E-mail us here: jilleenig@aol.com Numerous family members are expected to participate, so don’t miss out. It will be a most memorable time for all.
